As part of a five-year initiative, the brand is working with goat herders in Afghanistan to ensure the luxury fibre is produced as responsibly as possible. Here’s what you need to know. With winter fast approaching, it’s officially cashmere sweater season. “They’re sitting on a goldmine if the right techniques are employed,” says Agnė Baltaduonytė, advocacy manager at Oxfam in Afghanistan, which is partnering with Burberry on the initiative. “It starts with knowledge: ‘This is how you clean it’, ‘This is how you process it’.” Burberry is one of the world's major buyers of cashmere, and earlier this year its Foundation launched a new five-year project with Oxfam and green consultancy PUR Projet to train and empower.
