The first thing you’ll notice when you see these watches side-by-side is that we weren’t joking when we said they look very similar. Whether you are an aviation enthusiast, a professional pilot, or simply appreciate . After the Mark XVIII of 2016 and the Big Pilot’s Watch Spitfire of the same year, which were virtually indistinguishable, a symbiosis of the two seems almost logical, while the Mark leaves quietly. The Pilot’s Watch Mark . The new Mark XVIII is an extremely clean, unornamented watch, in the spirit of the most revered of the Marks: the XI and XII, and it represents some major (for the Mark series) changes from its predecessor, the Mark XVII. .
Here’s my Mark XVI Spitfire shown alongside my RGM 151-P. Both are very .
IWC’s current Pilot’s Watch collection largely draws on the Mark XI, but watches like the modern Mark XVIII and Automatic Spitfire offer the closest experience to the original. Both use classic sword hands in place of the Mark XI’s distinctive hand set (with that stubby hour hand) and add a date complication for the modern user, but there . An IWC Pilot’s watch is the one to have, be it the normal Mark XVIII, Spitfire in steel or in bronze, that’s up to you. My vote goes to the steel version of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Spitfire. . Hope IWC gives the Mark XVIII the in-house movement and 39mm sizing in the future as well. Reply. Paul Steele says: Oct 28, 2019 at 02:31. I unbox the IWC Spitfire watch and share the reasons I chose the Spitfire over IWC's Mark XVIII. Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/whatsonthe. It is also water resistant to six bars. The standard Mark XVIII (references IW327001, IW327002, and IW327011) will sell for ,950, the same price as the 36 mm Pilots Watch. Also, IWC will now offer NATO-style straps built just for the Mark XVIII. With this watch, you can say IWC has returned to the pure, function-driven pilots watches of years .
The first Mark XVIII model from 2016, IWC reference IW327001, set the standard. Available only in steel, like a true tool watch, the watch was time-and-date only and 40mm in diameter. Importantly, like the original Mark 11 and other watches intended for flight use, it was anti-magnetic. A soft-iron inner case encapsulated the movement and its . Whether you are an aviation enthusiast, a professional pilot, or simply appreciate fine craftsmanship and aeronautical design, the IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVI. The IWC Mark XVIII is 40 mm x 11 mm with a soft iron dial and inner case for magnetic resistance. As shown, black dial; sapphire crystal with double antireflective coating, “secured against displacement by drop in air pressure,” water resistance, 6 bar/60 meters. Movement, caliber 30110 (ETA base) adjusted to temperature and five positions .
The IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII is an entry-level model, and as such, operates on the IWC Calibre 30110, a modified base Sellita (ETA 2892) movement. The movement comes shielded from magnetic fields in the cockpit by a soft-iron cage, and protected from water ingress by a screw-down crown that guarantees resistance up to 6 atmospheres of . In modern times, IWC's Mark series has been the place to find more appropriately sized watches for those of us who are not NFL linemen (though even those ballooned to 41mm at one point, before coming back down to 40mm). The Automatic Spitfire, released in 2019, does us one better with a 39mm case diameter. When it comes to the Spitfire vs Mark XVIII, I prefer the Spitfire with it's fauxtina aesthetic, 39mm case diameter, and in-house 72 hr power reserve. . that would tick all my boxes. Wondering if it's wishful thinking to think IWC will release a similarly upgraded version to the Spitfire. Locked post. New comments cannot be posted. Welcome to HODINKEE's new video series, The Spec Sheet, where we use digestible, 60-second clips to showcase everything you need to know about a particular w. The IWC Mark XVIII is the aggressively priced, entry-level watch in the new Pilot’s Watch collection launched at SIHH 2016 endowed with the right qualities. With a palatable design, aviation heritage and affordable price, the Mark XVIII will probably sell well. But how good is it actually? Back in the 1930s IWC was began making aviator’s wristwatches of the type that’s .
So when IWC announced the Mark XVIII as the tribute to Mark XI in SIHH 2016, I was elated that there is a tribute piece and hope that it will be as close to the original as possible. But it was not to be. The Mark XVIII resembles more the Mark XII (and XV) than it does the Mark XI. The Mark XII is an automatic calibre with a JLC base movement. The IWC Spitfire and Mark XVII are two of the best IWC Pilot models. We compare them both to help you choose which is best for you.
Mark XVIII - 40mm, better finishing, but is it too big? Mark XX - similar to the XVIII, but a little better size, more refined Spitfire - I'm in love with the old fashioned font, the touches of colour and how crisp these are.
It shares its 39mm diameter and 10.8mm thickness with another high-profile IWC release from last year: the Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII Edition "HODINKEE." Both of these watches are a hair smaller than the conventional automatic Mark XVIII, which comes in at 40mm x 11mm.Visit our website: https://barkandjack.comCheck out our watch straps: https://barkandjack.shopI spent about half a day at the IWC boutique on Bond Street in .
Whether you are an aviation enthusiast, a professional pilot, or simply appreciate fine craftsmanship and aeronautical design, the IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVI. After the Mark XVIII of 2016 and the Big Pilot’s Watch Spitfire of the same year, which were virtually indistinguishable, a symbiosis of the two seems almost logical, while the Mark leaves quietly. The Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII can still be found in IWC’s digital catalogs, but only as the edition “Le Petit Prince.”
The new Mark XVIII is an extremely clean, unornamented watch, in the spirit of the most revered of the Marks: the XI and XII, and it represents some major (for the Mark series) changes from its predecessor, the Mark XVII. The “Spitfire” style hands are still there, but the altimeter-style date window’s been reduced to a single date. Here’s my Mark XVI Spitfire shown alongside my RGM 151-P. Both are very similar as the Mark XVI is 39mm and the 151-P is 38.5mm. Both have the ETA 2892 A-2 movement, one modified by RGM and the other by IWC. This continues the downsizing trend of IWC’s core pilot’s watches — the recent Mark XVIII is 40mm, which is great, but I think the 39mm here is perfect. It’s such a wearable, versatile size, and it adds a nice vintage touch (without being the 36mm of the original).
